On our trip from San Francisco, we leave Stephen to choose the itinerary in Los Angeles, because it is a virtual impossibility to cover downtown LA in such a short space of time. His selection comprises Hollywood, Hollywood Boulevard, Sunset Boulevard, Wilshire Boulevard (with which he identifies) and Santa Monica. It is a celebratory vision which reflects Stephens interests and, as such, it is of particular fascination. Los Angeles is celluloid fantasy to him and the dream must not be
tarnished.
